Pairc Eire Og staged its first inter county fixture as Tyrone under 16 Camogs welcomed Monaghan in the Ulster Shield Championship round robin tie on Sunday afternoon.

The wet conditions made conditions difficult for both sets of player resulting in a lot of scrappy play early on. A series of 45 metre frees for Tyrone in the first eight minutes of the game either fell short or drifted wide.

The majority of the play took place in the away side’s half before a long range effort from Kira Donnelly resulted in a point for the Red Hands. Catherine Muldoon doubled Tyrone’s lead with a point from open play on ten minutes. A bizarre point almost immediately followed for Monaghan as the Tyrone goalkeeper managed to tip the sliotar over the bar.

The next five minutes were littered with wides and 45 metre frees for Tyrone before Emma Muldoon’s effort trickled over the line to record the first goal of the game on fifteen minutes.

It took another five minutes before that lead was extended as Catherine Muldoon added two points in quick succession. Kira Donnelly’s work rate in midfield was hugely impressive with and she sent over two superb points just before half time to leave the score at the break Tyrone 1-6 Monaghan 0-1.

The visitors’ chances all but ended inside the opening ten minutes of the second period. With Tyrone dominating every area of the pitch Niamh Forker and Casey Gallagher added two goals to the scoreboard. Emma Muldoon added two further majors to really put the issue beyond doubt. Aisling McLaughlin, fresh from her journey from Tipperary that morning, was rewarded for her commitment to her county with a sublime goal.

The Monaghan defence was kept under severe pressure and were unable to stop Neamhann Ni Dhonnghaile, Rachel O’Neill and Chloe Little from adding to the goals scored. An Emma Donnelly point ended the game as Tyrone ran out emphatic winners.

Full Time: Tyrone 7-12 Monaghan 0-1.

Tyrone will now travel to Donegal next Sunday and win for the Red Hands will book their place in the final.
