Rosina McManus Shield final

Dean Maguirc Carrickmore 2-8 St Joseph’s Crossmaglen 2-2

On Sunday last Niamh Mc Elduff was starring for Tyrone minors against Mayo in the All Ireland series while today she struck a brace of goals goals in the closing  minutes of the first half of this Rosina McManus Shield final to turn the game in favour of her school side.

Those goals meant that they turned around in the second half to play into the breeze leading 2-6 to 0-0  with 2-5 of her team’s total coming from the sticks of Niamh and her sister, team captain Orlaith.

The Cross girls began ominously with their first point of the game 12 seconds after the restart from Aoibheann Sheridan but Carrickmore kept them at bay for the next thirteen minutes before a long free from Grace Fitzpatrick ended up in their net.

When Hannah McEntee pointed in the next attack, Dean Mc Guirc were up against it but with Neasa McElroy, helped by Orlaith McElduff dropping back from midfield, they closed ranks defensively and made life difficult for the Armagh girls.

Sheridan forced home a goal seven minutes from time, but the McElduff sisters and Lauren McKenna combined for Niamh McElduff to hit back with a point and that score gave the Dean Maguirc team the impetus to hold out until the final whistle.

Dean Maguirc: N McElduff 2-3, 0-1 free, O McElduff 0-4 frees, KR Donnelly 0-1.

St Joseph’s: A Sheridan 1-1, G Fitzpatrick 1-0, H McEntee 0-1

Referee: C McAteer
