Carrickmore ladies made up for the disappointment of losing the championship with a hard earned but deserved win at Pomeroy tonight over an excellent Dungannon team in the senior league final. This match was an excellent advert for the strength of the ladies game in the county as both teams produced a high octane display where the result was only decided by what was virtually the last kick of the game. Dungannon opened up with a couple of early scores with Niamh Hughes and Caroline Mc Erlane prominent in all their best work but goals from Elaine Coyle and Claire Gallagher edged the Carmen girls ahead.

It was nip and tuck throughout but as the game entered the last quarter Carrickmore were reduced to thirteen players following two sendings off. Dungannon seized the initiative and moved ahead by two just before veteran Eilish Gormley sent over a fabulous score that gave her team renewed hope. The sides were level with time almost up when a Dungannon attack saw the ball rebound off the bar with the Carrickmore keeper Claire Donnelly well beaten. Within fifteen seconds the ball was in the hands of county star Gemma Begley whose strong solo run carried her to within twenty five yards of the Dungannon goals. She was hauled to the ground and another sending off resulted. The Dungannon girls were punished further when Coyle knocked the resultant free over the bar to win it for Carrickmore on a final score of 2-09 to 1-11. Best for Dungannon were, Caroline Mc Grath, Emma Conlon, Mary Cassidy, Niamh Hughes while Alanagh Treanor, Roisin Rafferty, Eilish Gormely, Gemma Begley and Elaine Coyle stood out for the winners.
