Carrickmore Golfers Finish All Ireland Runners Up

SARSFIELDS (GALWAY) CROWNED 2011 ALL-IRELAND GAA GOLF CHAMPIONS, WATERFORD CASTLE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB, CO WATERFORD
SARSFIELDS made it a weekend to remember for Galway GAA when they claimed the 12th annual All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge champions at Waterford Castle Golf and Country Club, Co Waterford.
On the same day Galway’s U21s won the All-Ireland title, the Tribesmen edged out Tyrone’s Carrickmore to win the much-sought four-ball better-ball title.
David Byrnes, his nephew David Byrnes, Michael Corcoran and Padraig Hynes’ 164 points (stableford) two-day total was two better than the Ulster champions, led by Seamus McCartan.
Sarsfields were in second place overnight, two points behind then leaders O’Neill County men.
Former Leinster champions St Jude’s regained the provincial title they last won back in 2009 to finish in the third place, four points behind Sarsfields.
Cork’s Mitchelstown were crowned Munster kingpins, seeing off Portroe, captained by Tipperary’s 2010 All-Ireland winning manager Liam Sheedy, who finished in eighth.
Armagh’s Killeavy ended up in joint fifth alongside Allen Gaels from Leitrim.
