CARRICKMORE 2-8 MOORTOWN 1-8

Just when they were needed most Caitlin and Sorcha Gormley delivered in style for Carrickmore midway through the second half of their championship semi final against Moortown on Saturday at Rock. Once the chances were created the sisters fired home the goals that put Carrickmore in pole position in their Ladies Senior Championship semi clash.

The loughshore side was beginning to look the part following a converted Sinead Mc Veigh penalty early in the second half. Leading 1-6 to 0-6 they seemed well placed to push on and claim a place in the final. Unfortunately for them the spirit and desire of the Carrickmore side had just been stirred and back came the girls in green and gold with a vengeance. Gemma Begley and Aoibhinn Daly led the line superbly for the winners with some superb passing and tackling.

A rocket of a goal from Caitlin Gormley and a fine finish to the net from Sorchra Gormley turned the game very much in Carrickmore’s favour. To their credit Moortown battled right to the end but with Gemma Begley pulling the strings it was Carrickmore who made it through to the final.

The first half was competitive but low scoring finishing 0-4 piece. The game remained close and very competitive but it took Sinead Mc Vey’s converted second half penalty to really get things going and Carrickmore took over after that.

Midway through the second period Caitlin Gormley freed the ball in a tackle and fired to the net. Next up veteran Gemma Begley forced a turnover before Claire Mc Gurk sent Sorcha Gormley in on goal and the flame haired flyer made no mistake.

Moortown were now five behind but did reduce the gap to three before referee Brian Mc Callion sounded the full time whistle with the full time score 2-8 to 1-8 in favour of Carrickmore.
