Tyrone Grade 1 Minor League Final
Carrickmore 2-12 Ardboe 2-7

Team captain Tiarnan McGarrity at the end of his victory speech that “Carrickmore Haven’t Gone Away” and after back to back minor league titles it would be hard to argue with him.  Ardboe  were a very different side tonight than the one Carrickmore defeated in the championship a few weeks back.  They threw themselves into every tackle and challenge in a manner much more akin to Ardboe sides of the past.  Carrickmore just had too much quality on the field and they found the scores easier to come by when the needed them the most.  The fact that the game remained competitive right to the final quarter is testament to the hard work of the O’Donovan Rossa men.

Carrickmore were on the scoreboard first thanks to a Daniel Fullerton free in the 2nd minute and that was quickly followed up by a Tiarnan McGarrity point a minute later.  Ardboe responded in robust fashion.  First full forward Jack Martin chipped over a point and the same player had the ball in the Carrickmore net less than sixty seconds later. Both sides then swapped points from Lorcan McGarrity and a brilliant Eunan O’Neill 48 metre free.  Fullerton return to scoring ways after the water break clipped over a brace of points ahead of an Ardboe response in the shape of Conan Devlin.  Ardboe were then reduced to 13 men following the dismissal of Shea and Sean O’Hare following an incident close to the Ardboe bench.  Ardboe were a point up at that stage whistle but Daniel Fullerton was to have the final say of the half with a well taken goal ninety seconds from the break.  Half Time – Ardboe 1-3 Carrickmore 1-5.

Ardboe started the second half with plenty of vigor and levelled the game by the 39th minutes thanks to two excellent Jack Martin frees.  Tiarnan McGarrity eased the Carrickmore lead out to one again but Ardboe struck back immediately jumping two ahead after Jeimi Muldoon found the Carmen net in the 41st minute.  Carrickmore regrouped and would go on to outscore Ardboe 1-4 to 0-1 in the next 15 minutes of the game. Cahir Munroe and Daniel Fullerton slotted points for Carrickmore ahead of a James Donaghy goal.  Carrickmore did end the game with 14 men as well following Mattie McCallan’s red card but further points from Lorcan McGarrity and James Donaghy placed Carrickmore four ahead with less than five minutes left on the clock.

A 57th minute free from Jack Martin would be Ardboe’ last score of the game as Lorcan McGarrity and Daniel Fullerton finished with the final two points of the contest.  Final Score – Carrickmore 2-12 Ardboe 2-7.
