Castle Paving Division 2 Wrap Up
Tuesday 08.07.2025
Aghyaran hosted Moy and Clonoe travelled across to Killeeshil to complete the senior club fixture list for the weekend on Monday night in games that resulted in defeats for the two home clubs.
Clonoe showed just why they are many people’s favourites to return to senior football as league champions following a 0-24 to 0-12 victory over their opponents having led at the break 0-13 to 0-6. Once again Tommy Taggart brought his A game with 0-6 for the O’Rahillys while Conor Mc Aliskey, Ryan Morrow and Fintan Mc Clure hit 0-3 apiece. Others to get among the points were PJ Lavery (2), Conall Coyle (2) and Ciaran Corr (0-2). On a disappointing result for Killeeshil veteran Packie Mc Mullan hit 0-4 with Luke Donnelly (2), Mark Monaghan (2), Dillon O’Neill (2) and a point apiece from Michael O’Neill and Gary Reilly.
Aghyaran will look back at this one regretting the defensive mistakes that could well have cost them two valuable points in ACL Division 2. Half time saw Moy lead 3-3 to 0-9 with their goals coming from Jamie Coleman, Diarmuid Quinn and Colm Cavanagh. Declan Conroy, Michael Conroy and Ryan Conroy each bagged a brace of points for the Moy while Matthew Laverty, Ryan Laverty and Connor Mackle contributed a valuable three points between them. Moy’s goal early in the second half gave them the perfect restart while their fifth major with nine minutes remaining almost certainly sealed the win. Aghyaran are still to find their best form but Ryan Mc Menamin will take a bit of heart from the efforts of his players to turn this one around. Eoghan Mc Hugh, Dermot Mc Hugh, Ronan Mc Namee and Ronan Mc Hugh all hit points in the first half but in order to get something from this game they needed goals and they just were not forthcoming. Mc Namee, McHugh, Kieran Mc Glinchey and Caolan Mc Ginty fired over points but it was a case of too little too late and back to the training field.
