Castlederg and Owen Roes both advanced to the Tyrone Hunky Dory’s Junior Championship semi-finals following wins over Clann na nGael and Dregish respectively at Páirc Mhic Sioghair, Strabane on Saturday evening.

A hard working Castlederg side battled gamely to narrowly defeat Clann na nGael 1-10 to1-9 in a fine game played in front of a large crowd. An injury to Tyrone star Stephen O’Neill towards the end of the first half played a major part in the outcome of the contest.
The sides were level at the break 0-5 apiece but the St Eugene’s rallied in the second half with Sean Meehan firing a fine goal. He was ably assisted in the scoring stakes by Sean Harper who fired over five points. A Dominic Devine goal came too late for a Brian Dooher inspired Clann side who must now concentrate on the remainder of the league for any hope of promotion.

The second game in Strabane saw an up and coming Owen Roes side defeat Dregish 0-11 to 1-3 with former Tyrone minor star Cathal McShane again the star of the show as he rattled over 0-8 of his side’s total. The Roes led 0-8 to 1-2 at the break with McShane scoring five points three from play and two from free kicks with Stephen Harpur, Seamus Dooher and team captain Gerard Devine all bagging a point each. Dregish got both of their points via Stephen Breen with Cathal Rodgers finding the net.
The second half turned out to be a dull affair not helped by the heavy rain but Owen Roes stuck to their task with the impressive McShane getting all three of their scores whilst all that Dregish could muster was a solitary point from an Aidan O’Kane free kick.
