Omagh lost out by six points in tonight’s Rannafast Cup final to a superb St Pat’s Cavan side as both teams served up a feast of football. The Tyrone college went into this game as underdogs but started on fire and were 1-4 to 0-1 in front after eight minutes. A Rion Mc Kenna goal and a brace of points each from Padraig Mc Girr and Andrew Mc Grath gave Omagh CBS the perfect start. However that was as good as the first half got for Omagh as Cavan fought their way back into the game and held the Tyrone school scoreless for the remainder of the half while they added 2-2 to their tally to reach the break leading 2-3 to 1-4. Cavan’s two goals came from Matthew Mc Kenna and a Ronan O’Reilly penalty.

The second half saw Omagh on top again as Aidan Fullerton found the net early on before Padraig Mc Girr pointed to put Omagh in front. They held the lead for most of the second period and with five minutes to go they were still three in front. Ben Conaty struck for a Cavan goal to tie the game up but Omagh responded with a fine point from Fullerton again to take the lead. However it was Cavan that finished strongest with scores from Kane Mc Manus and James Veale sealing a six point win for the Breifne lads. Final score in what was an excellent game of high quality football St Pat’s Cavan 4-10, Omagh CBS 2-10.

Meanwhile in the Mac Rory cup Omagh CBS defeated St Michael’s Enniskillen at Augher this afternoon 0-13 to 0-4 with Daire Kavanagh top scoring for the Omagh side with 0-5. Others on target for Omagh in a rather one sided win were Ruairi Sludden and Stephen O’Donnell.
