2008 footballer of the year Sean Cavanagh’s season is over after picking up an injury while preparing for Ireland’s International Rules series against Australia.

The Moy man was bench pressing weights on Thursday evening at Callanbridge training complex in Armagh when he detached a tendon in his shoulder and it looks as though it could rule him out for quite a while.

He will undergo surgery in Dublin tomorrow [Monday] and it’s another blow for Tyrone after Brian Dooher suffered a jaw injury last week. First reports suggest he could be on the sidelines for up to six months and it’s also a huge blow to his club Moy who play Dromore in the opening round of the Tyrone senior championship at Healy Park this Friday.
