CBS Into McGrath Cup Semi Final

Omagh CBS are through to the Oisin McGrath Cup semi finals after a convincing 6-17 to 4-2 victory over St.Pats Armagh in Garvaghey. The winners were sporting their new jerseys kindly sponsored by Duo Group and after a slow start when the conceded 1-1 they got on top to take control. Eoghain Donnelly got the scoreboard rolling with a superb goal. Cormac Darcy hit another goal shortly after and Ciarnan Devine then hit a fine long range point.
Peter Colton fired over a long range free and another from play after some excellent defensive efforts from Charlie Meenan and Tom Gallen. Paudi Goodman sent Donnelly through for another goal and the Brothers looked in total control. Armagh’s inside forward line threatened again and a soft foul on the twenty metre line for Armagh ended up in the roof of the net!
Cathal Farley and Aodhan Corry exchanged points to settle things again. Goodman was a towering figure in the middle and scored a great point after a well worked move. Donnelly hit a point and Garrity hit a super score under serious pressure from the Armagh defence as Omagh CBS led 3-8 to 2-2 at halftime.
Omagh were playing against the breeze in the 2nd half and Armagh had some towering figures in the inside forward line. Charlie Meenan, Igor Samulewiz, Christy McCrory and Tomas Gallen all dealt with the aerial threat admirably holding the Armagh attack at bay. Disciplined tackling with excellent zonal defence and Ryan Baxter sweeping thwarted the Armagh attack. The Brothers switched swiftly from defence to attack and did so in numbers. Peter Garrity burned up a number of Armagh defenders and set up numerous opportunities. Farley and Garrity converted scores and Colton surged through from midfield for a fine goal.
McDonagh caught a high ball in the square and was fouled by the goalkeeper for a penalty. Paudi Goodman never gave the keeper a chance and slotted the penalty into the corner of the net. McDonagh popped up for a point and from the kickout Darcy hit an opportunistic score. Tom Gallen found himself up the field and scored a lovely point to really finish off the game as a contest.
A hopeful high ball into the full forward was deflected into the CBS net to give Armagh some hope. Armagh continued to employ the tactic of launching the high ball into the square and their efforts were rewarded with another shot being deflected into net.
The CBS held strong in the second half but conceding two soft goals which needs to be rectified by the time the semi final takes place in a few weeks time.
