Omagh’s grip on the Ulster minor title ended at the St.Pauls Club in Belfast on Saturday afternoon when they lost out on a 2-7 to 1-5 score line in their preliminary round tie with Antrim champions Lamh Dhearg. The holders would be first to admit that they didn’t play to their true capabilities on the day and they can have no complaints about the end result. Omagh opened the scoring through Stephen Murphy but it was the Antrim champions who led 1-4 to 0-2 at the break with Gerard Slane their goal scorer, full forward Cormac O’Neill the St.Endas other marksman. A minute into the second half O’Neill won a penalty which Conan Grugan converted
but that was as good as it got for the Tyrone double winners. Lamh Dhearg lifted their game with points from Ryan Murray and Mark McGarry and when Mark Jordan got their second goal it was too much for Omagh to claw back.
