The second game of Friday’s double header at Healy Park was a very close and thoroughly entertaining match that saw Edendork deservedly earn a replay following a brace of late points from the accurate boot of Darren Mc Curry.

Early points from Conn Kilpatrick and a trio from the boot of Mc Curry appeared to suggest that it would be Edendork’s night. However Cookstown settled to the task with Marty Murray, Barry Potter and Marty Hughes carrying the game to their opponents. John Gilmore and James Mc Gahan caused many problems for the Edendork defence and Gilmore’s twenty fifth minute goal helped ensure the sides went in at the break level.

The opening ten minutes of the second period saw both sides pick up bookings as the intensity of the exchanges increased before the St Malachy’s Conor Mallon received his marching orders following a second yellow card. A fine individual point from Edendork substitute Harry Og Conlon gave his team a fourteenth minute lead but Cookstown responded with a superbly worked goal from the foot of Barry Potter to send the Fr Rocks into a two point lead.

Points from county men Mc Curry and Morgan levelled the tie once again before John Gilmore and Marty Murray scores restored Cookstown’s two point advantage. Edendork showed considerable heart and fight to turn the game on its head as the clock ticked towards added time. Darren Mc Curry’s seventh and eighth points of the night ensured it would take a replay to determine which side will go forward to face Urney in this year’s Intermediate Championship final.
