Derrylaughan and Aghyaran met at Clanabogan on Tuesday evening and served up a very competitive encounter before the Kevin Barry’s pulled away to win 4-6 to 0-11.

Aghyaran began well with early points from Diarmaid Mc Hugh and Ronan Mc Laughlin. Derrylaughan took a while to settle but when they did they produced a very controlled performance.

Oisin Gordon hit the net six minutes in and the Barry’s added two further points from Gordon again and Levon O’Hagan to move three clear. A converted free from Eoghan Mc Hugh sixteen minutes in followed by points from Diarmaid Mc Hugh and Eoghan Mc Hugh again tied the game.

With the match heading towards half time O’Hagan and Caolan Mc Ginty swapped points to send the sides in at the break tied.

Half time score: Aghyaran 0-6, Derrylaughan 1-3.

The second half saw Aghyaran play with aid of the breeze. However it was Derrylaughan who made the better start hitting 1-3 without reply to seize control of the game. Conor Hughes netted the goal while Levon O’Hagan and Shea Canavan (2) bagged the points.

Aghyaran struggled to break through the Deerylaughan rearguard for most of the second half and with twenty minutes of the half gone the border men had managed to add only two points to their half time total, both from the boot of Diarmaid Mc Hugh.

The lough shore lads made them pay with goals from Joe Donnelly and Owen Cushnahan and Aghyaran will look back and regret a number of missed chances that could have made the latter part of the second half a lot more interesting.

Final score: Derrylaughan 4-6, Aghyaran 0-11.
