This evening’s championship double header at Killyclogher attracted a huge crowd as Trillick enjoyed an easy win over Killeeshil while Augher were made to battle hard for their win over Strabane.

In the Intermediate game a fired up Richard Donnelly produced a fine individual display that saw him score 1-10 of his side’s 1-18 total. While Donnelly’s personal tally was impressive a lot of the credit for the Reds’ win must go to their hard working defence and midfield where Mattie Donnelly, Emmett Mc Fadden and Daniel Mc Donnell were hugely impressive. Indeed Mc Donnell managed to bag four points for his team in what was an excellent performance by the corner back.

Killeeshil will take little consolation from this game as they were out thought and out fought from the start. Packie and John Mc Mullan battled hard for their side but there was little they could do to stem the red tide as Trillick made it through to a quarter final clash with Derrylaughan on a final score of 1-18 to 0-5.

The second game in Thursday’s double header was a much closer and more keenly fought affair. Strabane Sigersons began well  and led by three after nine minutes with JP Gallagher and Danny Mc Bride showing the way. However Augher settled to the task and Martin Mc Elhatton and Aidan Mc Elroy helped put them 1-3 to 0-4 in front twenty minutes into the game.

Augher looked to be pulling away when they opened a four point lead seven minutes before the break but Strabane responded to the challenge hitting three points inside the closing minutes to leave the half time score 1-6 to 0-8 in favour of Augher.

The second half was a cagey affair that threatened to boil over once or twice. A four point burst by the Clogher Valley men put them in control with ten minutes remaining. With time running out Strabane fought to regain a foothold in the game but failed to breach the well marshalled Augher defence. Referee Sean Hurson flashed two red cards late in the game as Augher recorded their first win of the season on a final score of 1-14 to 0-12. Liam Connolly (3), Aidan Mc Elroy (2) and Darragh Kavanagh(2) were among the second half scorers for the winners.
