Clogher enjoyed a fairly comfortable 1-15 to 0-7 win in the first round of the championship at Tattyreagh on Friday night in spite of a spirited second half from Dregish.

With a strong wind in their favour during the first half Clogher dominated possession and created plenty of chances. Marc Bogue, Jamie Callaghan and Marc Mc Connell converted chances inside the opening ten minutes before Fergal Mc Kenna found the net for the Eire Ogs.

That score really settled Clogher and with Ryan Mc Caughey finding his range they went on to add seven further first half points to reach the break leading 1-11 to 0-0.

Dregish came out fired up at the start of the second half but lost inspirational midfielder Fergus Mc Crossan to a black card inside the opening thirty seconds of the half. His replacement David O’Reilly added some pace and power to Dregish and they produced a very determined second thirty minutes which saw them outscore their opponents seven points to four.

O’Reilly, Aidan O’Kane, Stephen Breen, Martin Bonner and Tony Quinn got among the points for their team but Clogher never appeared troubled and late scores from Jamie Callaghan and Martin Shortt sealed the win and a quarter final tie against Brocagh. The Emmetts survived a fine comeback against Brackaville at Derrytresk this evening to win by a point.

A word of thanks to both clubs for having their facilities in tip top shape with the playing surface at both venues a credit to all.
