Championship Wins For Errigal And Strabane
Wednesday 29.05.2013
Played in ideal conditions this evening at Killyclogher there were championship quarter final wins for Strabane and Errigal Ciaran in two very entertaining ladies matches. Strabane rode their luck in their intermediate championship tie and were grateful to their goalkeeper Leona Houston for several point blank saves as well as one in the last minute of their game. That particular save from the boot of Jane Ward denied a gallant Beragh side the win their play deserved. However the Sigersons made the best of their limited chances and a couple of late scores from Ciara Mc Gill and Lorraine Conwell ensured they held on to win 2-9 to 1-10.
Errigal Ciaran got quite a shock from Glenelly as the north Tyrone side opened up a five point lead on eight minutes in their senior quarter final following a two goal burst from Aoife Hicks and Grace Mc Cullagh. Errigal eventually settled and with Shannon and Lycrecia Quinn to the fore they recovered to reach the break leading 1-07 to 2-0. Lycrecia finished top scorer on the night with a hat trick of penalty goals as the reigning county champions began their title defence in successful style winning by nine on a score line of 3-12 to 3-3.
