Championship Wins For Urney And Omagh
Sunday 10.08.2014

This afternoon’s double header at Fintona saw wins for Urney over Edendork and Omagh over Eglish. In front of a large crowd and in a persistent downpour Urney showed considerable battling qualities to defeat Edendork by four points on a 1-12 to 0-11 scoreline.
The first half saw Darren Mc Curry keep his team in the game with five excellent points in spite of Urney dominating possession and creating the better chances. Johnny Lafferty was in super form as he controlled the pace of the game with a virtuoso display of precision passing and shooting. Lafferty top scored for the winners with 1-2 while former Donegal player Fergal Mc Nulty, Jamie Mc Aleer and Stephen Lafferty all bagged three points apiece.
Edendork missed the ball winning presence of Niall Morgan and Harry Og Conlon around the midfield but were almost totally reliant on Darren Mc Curry for scores. Mc Curry finished the game with nine points to his name but he was powerless to prevent Urney making it through to the last four of the Intermediate championship.
The weather improved considerably for the second game which saw Omagh forward Ronan O’Neill hit 3-3 with all three goals coming in the opening half.
Eglish struggled with the pace and strong running of the Omagh side who had big Joe Mc Mahon back from injury. His presence and calmness under pressure ensured things were kept under control throughout as St Endas reached the break 3-3 to 0-2 in front.
Eglish improved after the break and outscored their opponents in the second half 0-6 to 0-5 but they were playing for pride more than anything else and Omagh were comfortable winners in the end on a 3-8 to 0-8 score line.
