Dungannon lifted their first grade one minor league title since 2002 when they emerged worthy winners over Errigal Ciaran in a keenly contested league final at Killeeshil on Thursday evening.

The Clarkes were eager to avenge their championship defeat at the hands of the same opponents and they made a great start to the game as they established a 1-5 to 0-1 lead by the end of the opening quarter with points from  James Morgan, Oisin Cowan and Cormac Hughes after a brilliantly taken goal from Captain Dylan O’Hagan after only two minutes. Errigal Ciaran responded with a well taken major of their own from Darragh Canavan but it was Dungannon who led 1-9 to 1-3 at halftime.

Frees from Canavan and Peter Og McCartan kept Errigal in touch while Tommy Owens grabbed a goal for them as well. Dungannon though didn’t panic with Morgan taking his personal hail to half a dozen and Hughes taking his to four. A goal from substitute Patrick Keogh settled the issue on a night when Errigal Ciaran had to wait until the 57th minute for their one and only point from play from Ciaran Traynor. Wing back Odhran Robinson got a goal for Errigal Ciaran deep into injury time but it was Dungannon’s night as it finished 2-14 to 3-7.
