Carrickmore’s Clodagh Munroe has just accepted an opportunity of a lifetime & one which most young people only dream of. She is jetting off to Minnesota, Minneapolis USA on a guaranteed 4yr Handball Scholarship to study for her degree in the States as well as enjoying the fantastic opportunities that come with it.
Clodagh is well known as a dual handball/gaelic football star and plays for both her beloved Carrickmore club and the Red Hand county in both sports. No doubt she will be a big loss to both sports here in Ireland but she will relish this opportunity to pit her wits and her skills against the best there is across the water.
This 18 year old’s list of honours is well known to those who follow GAA Handball and ladies football. She has participated in 2 Handball world championships in Calgary, Canada 2015 & Minnesota, Minneapolis 2018 & became World Champion at both, winning gold awards.
She has achieved top accolades in her juvenile career winning elite grades at U14, U16 & MINOR level in 40×20 code & she has picked up National titles in both 40×20 & Wallball throughout her juvenile career.
This scholarship which she commences mid August has been awarded not only because of her sporting achievements but is also due to her strong work ethic, strength of character, determination & desire to work hard & achieve well both at a personal level & academically.
