The big nostalgic night of the year is fast approaching for all the Gaels and supporters of An Clochar Éire Óg. After almost 3 years of organization and planning for this milestone in the club’s history the long wait is almost over.
On Saturday 23rd Feb 2013 close on 500 Clogher Gaels will converge on the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan 75 years to the day since the present club was formed to join in the club’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
Newly elected club chairperson and also Gala Committee Chairperson Paul Mc Elroy, along with long serving club secretary, Eugene Mc Connell are hoping that all the time and effort that has gone into the organizing such a huge event will be rewarded with a massive turnout of many Clogher Gaels who have had some association with the club over the past 75 years.
“No stone has been left unturned in our bid to make this one of the most memorable occasions for all those who attend.” Paul stated. “Meticulous attention to detail has gone into every aspect of what has been planned for the night. This is a night to remember, and to reminisce, but it is also a night to look ahead and focus on how we plan for our future. We are a small junior club, but like all G.A.A. clubs we have ambitions and high expectations for the future. We are intent on enhancing our club facilities so our whole community can benefit.”
Club secretary, Eugene Mc Connell echoed Paul’s sentiments. “On the night there will be something to suit both young and old. There will be a massive club draw for all those attending, with over £5000 in prizes on offer, ranging from romantic weekend breaks at some of the top hotels throughout Ireland, as well as sports vouchers, spa treatments, fuel vouchers, activity weekend breaks to suit all the family, 1 hour helicopter ride over Tyrone, designer sunglasses, £250 dental voucher, tickets & overnight accommodation for a top show at the Helix in Dublin. On top of this there will be a “One Off Auction” on the night with some never to be repeated opportunities to capture a unique once in a life time memento of an item of special significance to all Clogher Gaels.”
The three successful winning teams of 1972 (Junior Champions) 1985 (Div. 3 League Winners) and the 2000 (Junior Champions) will be present, with the 1972 Junior winning Captain Brian Pearson flying in from the U.S.A. The three replica winning Jersies framed and signed by all the team members will go under the hammer. Another one off item on offer to bidders will be a specially commissioned Tyrone Jersey which incorporates the two successful team sponsors carried on a half and half shirt and signed by all the members of the three winning teams who captured the “Sam Maguire” Cup.
G.A.A. legend Michael O’Muircheartaigh will be present of the night as a special guest and the MC for the evening will be another leading light in the G.A.A. Jarlath Burns. A further highlight of the night will be the unveiling of a special DVD with a nostalgic look back at some of the club highlights over the years featuring some intriguing interviews with a number of the key Clogher Gaels involved with the club down through the years.
One other significant part to the event will be a special acknowledgement of the four surviving members of the 1948 team who reached the Senior County Final three of whom will be present on the night.
Concluding Paul added, “There will be a few surprises on the night and something that will leave a lasting memory of what should be a historic occasion. The loud and clear message for all Clogher Gaels and supporters is make sure you are there and don’t miss out”.
Patrons attending are asked to assemble at 6.30pm to allow proceedings to get under way at 7pm
