On Friday 22nd June 2012, a regular Div 3 All County League game involving Brackaville and Clogher Eire Og’s turned into a traumatic nightmare for one Clogher player. A completely freak collision between two players, an everyday occurrence in any game was to turn out a much more serious event as the time unfolded.
For John Mc Glone the next 24 hours were to prove critical, a seemingly simple pain in his side was to be a little more worrying. A persistent girlfriend, Noelle Holland herself a nurse, insisted John should go to Craigavon Hospital and what a priceless bit of advice this turned out to be. As John waited in the Accident & Emergency his condition began to deteriorate and upon closer examination it was discovered John was bleeding internally and losing a lot of blood coupled with a dramatic decrease in his blood pressure level John was rushed into theatre and for the next 6 hours the surgeons battled to save one of John’s kidney’s. While undergoing the major operation John required 16 units of blood to help save his life. Thankfully after many agonising hours in Intensive Care John did manage to pull through, while sadly the surgeons were unable to save John’s kidney he is now well on the way to recovery. Looking back it now shows just how vital it is to have stores of blood supplies to deal with such emergencies.
All of John’s many friends, team mates and supporters of Clogher Éire Óg’s have come together to help organise a Charity Cycle which will take place on Sunday 21st Oct and all proceeds raised will go towards the Blood Transfusion Services. This is such a vital aspect to everyday life and no one ever knows when they themselves may be in need of a pint of blood.
Pictured at the Official Launch are Club Secretary Eugene Mc Connell and Club Treasurer Steven Mc Kenna, plus John himself who is showing off his new bike on which he hopes to complete the 30 or 60 miles Charity Cycle. Sponsor cards are available from any club members or in the local shops and pubs. A special chapel gate collection will be taken up next Sunday 14th Oct at all Masses in the Clogher Parish. Plenty of help would be welcome on the day to assist with stewarding, helping make refreshments, helping out at water stations. Please come along on the day if you are keen to lend a hand.
The craze of cycling has now hit almost every area of Tyrone and much further afield and it is hoped that all the many cycling enthusiasts will come along and join in on the day. Entry Fee is £10. All donations are also very welcome. The registration will take place at the Clogher G.F.C. Clubrooms from 8.30am and Cyclists will head off at 9.30 am
The full details of the route are available on the Clogher Éire Óg’s Facebook page and by then clicking onto the link.
