Clonoe O’Rahilly’s Senior Ladies continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon making history into the bargain when they beat Derrynoose in the Ulster Junior Semi Final to reach their first ever Ulster Junior Final.

Clonoe made the better start to the game settling early and in a dominant display of scoring hit 1-05 without reply. Eimhear Cushnahan registered the first score of the game running through with a fine pointed effort. Orlagh Gavin followed that up with a brace of points before Sinéad Hanna added a fourth.

With Clonoe asserting their authority on the game, Fionnuala O’Neill’s marauding runs from defence were rewarded with a goal to put her side 1-5 to 0-0 in front. As well as creating chances for the  O’Rahilly attack, Eimhear Cushnahan, Shannon Donnelly and Niamh Hughes worked hard defensively to break up any Derrynoose forays into the Clonoe defence.  At the other end Áine Heagney kept the scoreboard ticking over before Derrynoose responded with a point, their first of the game. The Clonoe forwards regrouped with Orlagh Gavin’s effort raising the green flag. Derrynoose finished the half kicking two points to Clonoe’s one, another well taken Orlagh Gavin strike.

Half time score

Clonoe 2-06

Derrynoose began the second half in determined manner hitting the first score before Clonoe responded with a point by Orlagh Gavin. The game changed on the ninth minute when Áine Heagney was sent to the sin bin. Derrynoose took full advantage of the numerical superiority, applying pressure on the Clonoe defence hitting 2-4 to go one point in front.

It was when Clonoe got back to parity in terms of numbers that they settled again. They finished the game strongly scoring three points through Orlagh Gavin and Eimhear Cushnahan (2).
