A large crowd assembled in Clonoe this afternoon to see the eagerly anticipated championship quarter final clash between the O’Rahillys and their neighbours Coalisland. It was the Fianna who made the better start hitting three goals against the breeze to lead at the break. Ace marksman Cathair Quinn hit the net from the penalty spot while Gerard Quinn and Shea Rankin also scored goals for The Fianna. In spite of playing with the breeze the home side struggled to make the best of the conditions with Aarron Elliot responsible for his team’s first half goal while Daryl Magee was among the points.
Clonoe were much improved after the break and even though they were facing into a strong wind they produced a memorable display restricting their opponents to two points in the second half. The key score for the eventual winners was a second goal from Elliot who finished to the net after latching on to a fine pass from Danny Mc Nulty. Buoyed by this score Clonoe went on to record a well deserved 2-14 to 3-4 win with Daryl Magee, Elliot and Rhys Quinn all landing second half points for the winners.
