The spirit of the O Rahilly was very much in evidence at Edendork on Saturday afternoon as Clonoe coped with the sending off of one player and a couple of black cards to boot to defeat Donaghmore 1-9 to 0-10.

This LCC Senior Championship quarter final drew a large crown to Arthur Mallon Park Edendork and for long periods of the game Donaghmore looked like they might prevail. The game changed however when Clonoe introduced Danny Mc Nulty in the second half and the big full forward was directly involved in 1-4 which ultimately won the game for his team.

The opening quarter saw the sides tied on three occasions with Donaghmore points from Conor Cush (2) and Cormac Mc Cann while Conor Mc Aliskey, Stephen Mc Nulty and Ryan Morrow replied for the Rahillys.

Points from Conor Cush and Ronan Cassidy put Donaghmore two clear  but with a minute of normal time left in the first half Clonoe lost Jerome Mc Clure to a red card and Conor Mc Aliskey to a black card. The outstanding Ryan Morrow at wing back for Clonoe landed the last point of the half to send the teams in at the break with Donaghmore leading 0-5 to 0-4.

Donaghmore started the second half on top with early scores from Shea Hamill and Conor Cush but the introduction of of Danny Mc Nulty changed the game. The big Clonoe target man won and converted a mark to keep his team in it but Donaghmore were on top and stretched the lead to three with a fine score from Cormac Mc Cann. Conor Mc Aliskey returned to the fray and landed a point before Danny Mc Nulty dived to punch the ball to the net and put his side 1-6 to 0-8 ahead.

Clonoe replied with scores from Conor Mc Aliskey and Stevie Mc Nulty and suddenly Donaghmore looked to be in bother.
