After 27 minutes you could have been forgiven in believing that this Tyrone Junior Championship game was done and dusted. At that point Clogher led 2-6 to 0-2 and on top of that the Clann’s had already suffered the loss of  Stephen O’Neill due to a black card. It is to their eternal credit that they dug in and got themselves two points ahead with a minute of injury time played by the end of the second half. Clogher pegged back that gap with two late frees from Ciaran Shields and Michael McCaughey.

Clogher began the game looking the more likely to steamroller their opponents. By the 18th minute they were 1-4 to 0-1 ahead. The goal came in the 12th minute thanks to Ryan McCaughey who rifled the ball to the corner of the net. Fergal McKenna and Ciaran Shields were also on target during that time for the Eire Og’s side. During the opening 30 minutes Gareth McDermot was Clann’s only scorer with two well taken points. When Fergal McKenna hit the Clann’s net again in the 26th minute it looked like lights out for them. Clogher went into the break 2-6 to 0-2 ahead.

The second half opened with Clann na nGael abandoning the short passing game and opting instead for route one football. It paid dividends as they hit 1-6 without reply inside the opening 12 minutes. By the 55th minute Clann na nGael’s recovery was complete as they took the lead for the first time through an excellent point from Gareth McDermot. That score followed a succession of great scores from Niall O’Neill, Damien Ball and Michael O’Neill. Clogher despite the setback kept going and forced a replay with those two late frees deep into injury time. Final Score Clann na nGael 1-13 Clogher 2-10
