Dromore sent out a warning to the other would be senior contenders that they mean business this year with a resounding 2-19 to 0-6 win over Strabane in their first round clash at Killyclogher on Sunday evening. Indeed it could have been much worse for the Sigersons had the winners not spurned at least three other great chances of goals.

The pre match favourites were quick out of the blocks and were 0-7 to 0-1 in front by the midway point of the first half. Eoin Mc Cusker, Emmett O’Neill, Conor O’Neill and Ruairi Sludden were all on target as the Dromore forwards weaved some dizzy patterns through the Strabane rearguard.

The north Tyrone outfit played very defensively in an attempt to keep them in the game before Warner Mullen and Danny Mc Bride scored their opening points. Any hopes however of a sustained comeback were dashed when Ruairi Sludden bagged the first of two goals eighteen minutes into the half.

The game was over as a contest even at that early stage and by the break Dromore led 2-11 to 0-4 with Sludden’s second goal a thing of beauty.

To their credit Dromore kept the pace up for the duration of the second half and the Strabane defence must have felt they were under siege for long periods of the game. Ryan Mc Menamin, Sean O’Neill and Niall Sludden continued to work hard and provided a steady supply of ball to the forwards. The conversion rate slowed in the second half but Dromore still managed to add eight points to their total winning comfortably 2-19 to 0-6.

They can now look forward to a quarter final clash with Ardboe who are now managed by former Dromore manager Paul Rouse.
