Ulster Ladies Junior Club Championship
Coalisland Fianna 3-13
Aldergrove 1-10
Maura McClure scored 2-3 and veteran Lynette McShane came off the bench to tee up Nicole Murphy for a goal that helped see the Tyrone junior champions across the line in their first Ulster championship outing.
The Antrim side bolstered by a big travelling support caused the Fianna plenty of difficulty throughout a feisty hour. Coalisland lost Una Robinson to a red card and Niamh McKernan was sin binned. However despite being down to fourteen players for much of the second half the quality of McClure’s finishing and the overall work rate of the Tyrone side proved crucial.
The Fianna led 1-7 to 0-5 at the break with McClure drilling home the only goal with McShane, Emma Cummings, Chloe Corr, Caiomhe Quinn and Niamh McKernan also adding points in a good first half. To their credit the Antrim side continued to battle. Aoife Taggart, Nicole Jones and Caitlin Taggart landed points while Coalisland keeper Laura Kelly made a fine stop to deny Taggart who went one on one with the keeper in the first period.
Aldergrove closed in on their hosts in the third quarter, with McShane off injured and with McKernan yellow carded the Antrim side took full advantage and Taggart bagged a goal. The Fianna girls were rocking but a second McClure goal eased the nerves. Robinson was duly sent off and despite points from Quinn, Cummings and McClure the Antrim girls remained in the tie.
Lynette Mc Shane was sent back on and in spite carrying a bad back injury her class was evident when she collected a high ball and sent Murphy on her way for a great goal. The Tyrone champions tagged on further points and eased home to a big win.
