The Tyrone GAA Centre at Garvaghey was the venue for the launch of the “Miles For Matty” event which commemorates the life of Killyclogher man Matthew Drumm who died suddenly in December 2013. His death at the time was a huge blow to his family and the entire Killyclogher/Omagh community. However his untimely and very sad passing gave the gift of life to seven different individuals who at that time were in need of organ transplant.

The event will take place on Saturday May 21st with the starting point being the village of Killyclogher. Those who wish to support the event in terms of participating can select from a five km walk, a ten km run or a sixty mile cycle.

It is hoped that the cycle/run/walk will highlight the importance of, and need for, organ donation across the country while all proceeds raised from the event will go to the Northern Ireland Transplant Association whose chairperson Erica Ferguson was also in attendance.

Matty’s brother Ciaran addressed the gathering and explained the rationale behind the design of the jersey, which was officially launched on the night, and the family’s support of organ donation since Matthew himself was a firm believer in it.

Among those in attendance on the night was Tyrone senior manager Mickey Harte accompanied by several of his players all of whom would have known Matty personally.

Details of the launch and the “Miles For Matty” project can be accessed via Facebook.
