Cornafean 0-7 Rock 4-12
Tyrone Junior champions Rock made light of the challenge presented by Cavan side Cornafean on Sunday when they travelled to Breffni Park and defeated the Breffni side 4-12 to 0-7.
The game as a contest was as good as over by half time as Rock found their rhythm and opened up a nine point lead before their opponents were reduced to fourteen men.
With home advantage and a vocal support behind them Cornafean starteded strongly with points from Barry Doyle and Adrian McCaffrey. Missing the imposing midfield presence of Diarmuid Carroll Rock took some time to settle but in the 10th minute it was game on as full forward Aidan McGarrity fired in his side’s first goal. Ryan Crilly added a point before Enda Mc Williams also found the net to put the Tyrone champions in pole position.
A brace of Conor McCreesh points sandwiched a Barry Doyle point for Cornafean before Padraig Ward finished the ball to net after a shot from Enda McWilliams had rebounded off the post.
With Rock 3-4 to 0-4 in front things took a further turn for the worse for the Cavan champions when they lost corner forward Doyle to a straight red card.
Rock continued to dominate play after the break with Cathal McWilliams opting to take a point when a goal seemed the easier option. Liam Duignan scored a point for Cornafean but once Rock Captain Tommy Bloomer got his side’s fourth goal of the afternoon the Cavan side were left wishing and waiting for the final whistle.
Rock maintained their relentless push and finished strongly to make it through to the semi finals with scores from McGarrity, Mc Creesh, Martin Corrigan and Francie Bloomer.
Next up for the Tyrone champions is a clash with Fermanagh’s top guns Newtownbutler.
