First up was the Gerry Kelly Memorial blitz on Saturday 17th September with over 100 boys from a range of clubs involved in what was a great day of football for all involved. Every club was rewarded at the conclusion of the day’s proceedings with All Star Award certificates and medals presented to the worthy participants.

Next up was the annual Gerald O’Doherty Memorial blitz held on Saturday 24th September with approximately 120 children participating in what was a competitive event. Clubs from around the local district, Derry and Donegal participated and at the end of a successful day of football it was Termon (Donegal) and Newtownstewart (Tyrone) who claimed the prestigious Gerald O’Doherty Cup and Shield respectively.

The clubs honorary president John McCrory was on hand to present the trophies and medals to both sets of winners.

The final blitz was played on Sunday 2nd October with the Sean Duffy Memorial Blitz for Under 12 girls hosted once again at Páirc Mhic Sioghair. Approximately 50 girls from Strabane, Castlederg, Killyclogher and Carrickmore with Carrickmore qualifying to take on host Club Strabane in the final. Congratulations to Carrickmore who won a very competitive final and take the trophy home for the second year running. Several of the late Sean Duffy’s siblings were present to make the awards.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir to all those who helped organise the various blitzes keeping alive the memory of our deceased local Gael’s, to the organisers at each age group, to all the visiting clubs, to the parents who provided the welcome refreshments, to the referees and all who assisted in having the grounds in excellent shape and last but by no means least to those who kindly sponsored the trophies and medals for all of the blitzes, Melmount & East Bank Estates Community Associations Forum, Lisnafin Ardnalee Trust Cross Community Development Association and the Melmount Extended Schools Cluster to whom the club are extremely grateful for their generosity.
