CLUB| U-16 Championship For Killeeshil
Saturday 15.10.2016
The old saying that goals win matches was surely proven at Augher on Saturday afternoon when two early goals from Killeeshil were the key scores as the hoops defeated Dromore in the Under 16 championship final 2-07 to 0-11.
The winners raced into a 2-3 to 0-1 lead following a first minute goal from Jason Doyle and a fine finish from Tomas Hoy on ten minutes. At that stage it seemed that Killeeshil were going to run away with the game.
However they struggled for scores for the remainder of the half and in spite of being outplayed for long periods Dromore reached the break trailing 2-4 to 0-4. Oisin Gallogly, Eoin Mc Shane and Ross Slevin landed points as the blues kept a foothold in the game.
The second half saw Dromore come more into the game as Killeeshil found time and space in short supply. Tomas Hoy and Cormac Donaghy did land early points for the winners but once again they struggled to put their opponents away. Dromore grew in confidence as points from Ross Slevin and John Mac Rory narrowed the gap to two with the game entering injury time.
Unfortunately for Dromore they just ran out of time at the end. Indeed they came very close to snatching the win when they struck the post right at the death as Killeeshil held on for a narrow but deserved win.
