Kildress may be bottom of the division one table but they are through to the last eight of the Donnelly Vauxhall Senior championship after edging past Augher in glorious conditions at Edendork on Sunday afternoon.

The winners were boosted by a fortunate goal early on as Des Treacy’s high free from out on the right wing was fumbled by keeper Arthur Kelly and ended up in the back of the net. Augher though soon got on level terms thanks to points from Liam Connolly and the returning Darragh Kavanagh.  Philip Lennon and Kavanagh swapped points before a late Niall Quinn score left the Wolfe Tones leading 1-3 to 0-5 at the interval.

The lead soon changed hands again thanks to Declan Connolly and Kavanagh before wing half back Conor McAleer weighed in with a terrific score to leave it all level once again. Twice Declan Connolly put the St.Macartans in front from frees but both times Kildress levelled through Treacy and Frank McGurk.  McGurk and Kavanagh exchanged points before Lennon and Quinn left the Wolfe Tones two clear with seven minutes left to play. Kildress keeper Gerard Grimes pulled off a wonderful save to deny Aidan McElroy a goal and while Kavanagh got his seventh of the afternoon it was Kildress who went through on a 1-9 to 0-11 scoreline.
