Edendork showed considerable heart and spirit to lift the 2015 Donnelly Motors Intermediate Football Championship on Sunday evening.

With ten minutes left in the game they led by five points, were dominant all over the field and looked set to pull away from their opponents Urney. However a well finished goal from Chris Bogle followed by points from Johnny and Ronan Lafferty levelled the game and with momentum very much on Urney’s side it seemed the title was heading to North Tyrone.

Fortunately from an Edendork perspective when heart and commitment were required most their players stepped up to the plate and delivered. Christopher Mc Curry, who had been withdrawn due to injury, returned to the battle to edge his team in front again before Conn Kilpatrick and Conor Mallon added match winning scores for their side.

There was very little between the teams in a close and competitive first half. Urney played with the breeze during that period and fifteen minutes in were 0-4 to 0-2 up with scores from Johnny Lafferty (2), Ronan Lafferty and Jamie Mc Aleer. However the border men were rocked back on their heels on sixteen minutes when Darren Mc Curry took a fabulous pass from Niall Morgan before hitting the net with a fine turn and shot from fifteen yards.

That goal put Edendork one in front but Urney landed three free kicks ( Plunkett Langan 0-2, Ryan Henry) to go in at the break one in front.

The second half saw Edendork’s pace and support play come to the fore from early on. Five minutes in and a high ball into the Urney square was knocked down by Niall Morgan. The in-rushing Harry Og Conlon showed great composure and balance to finish to the net and put his side 2-4 to 0-8 in front.

Urney looked rattled but responded well with a point from team captain Fergal Mc Nulty. Further points from Darren Mc Curry and Niall Morgan tightened Edendork’s control of the game. Mc Nulty landed Urney’s tenth point but three scores in a row appeared to send Edendork on their way to the title before we had that exciting comeback and finish.

Final Score: Edendork 2-12, Urney 1-12.
