Killyclogher made the short run up to Carrickmore this evening and came away with the points on a final score of 1-16 to 1-13. Carrickmore’s goal came right at the end of the game but the home side will look back on the two superb saves made by Killyclogher goalkeeper Simon O’Neill and a number of other missed chances that could have changed the outcome of the contest.

That said the winners were the better side over the course of the game with Mark Bradley , Conall Mc Cann, Luke Murnaghan, Gavin Potter and Oran Toal standing out for their team . Toal’s all important goal just before half time was well constructed and finished neatly at the back post. Conall Mc Cann was also in fine scoring form for his team hitting five points over the course of the opening half.

Killyclogher reached the break leading by six and were good value for their lead. For Carrickmore Aidan Woods, Conan Mc Elduff, Stevie Grugan and Tiernan Loughran worked hard to keep their team in the contest. The key score of course was the Hayes goal which sent the teams off at the break with the visitors leading 1-10 to 0-7.

With the championship so close neither side was at full strength and both teams made the full quota of changes over the course of the second period. Killyclogher kept their opponents at arm’s length with their defence working hard to make things difficult for Carrickmore. Both sides found it hard to create scoring chances and when they managed to get in to positions for shots the defensive intensity of their opponents resulted in numerous squandered opportunities.

With one eye on the  championship the pace of the game dropped significantly in the final quarter. A late goal from Conal Mc Elduff for Carrickmore reduced the gap to three points but there was insufficient time for any further play and Killyclogher won 1-16 to 1-13. The match was excellently overseen by referee Martin Mc Erlane.
