Congratulations To Fianna Under 16s But You Have To Feel For Strabane.

The Under 16 championship final on Sunday turned out to be one of the best finals of recent years. Two very evenly matched teams Strabane and Coalisland went at it hammer and tongs and in the process produced a highly entertaining game of Gaelic Football. It was a game that swung one way and then the other before finishing with a late goal to secure the title for The Fianna.
Both sides were blessed with superb players throughout and the skills displayed bode well for the future not just of the two clubs but of Tyrone football. Coalisland’s reluctance to lie down and accept defeat saw them land the match winning goal with less than a minute remaining. A high ball into the Sigerson’s defence was brilliantly fielded by Caoimhin Morgan and the midfielder managed to somehow find space in a crowded area and score the winning goal.
In truth it was very harsh on the Strabane lads who must have thought they had won it when they moved into a two point lead following Aodhan Devine’s fine score as the game moved into injury time. However it has often been said that a two point lead is a dangerous one and so it proved in this case as Morgan and his colleagues wrestled the trophy form the Sigersons following that last gasp goal.
Both teams should be commended for their displays and although it could be argued that a draw may well have been a fairer result no-one can take away from the Coalisland lads that they are the Tyrone Under 16 Champions for 2011.
