Conor Mc Kenya’s time as a professional AFL footballer is now over and the Eglish man will soon be on his way back home to Tyrone.

It was no secret that the former county minor struggled with homesickness throughout his time in Australia. When he spoke with us a few weeks ago he told us that he would sit down with his club Essendon at the end of the season and take stock of how he was and what might happen for next year.

Unfortunately for his club Essendon the decision has come earlier than was anticipated and Mc Kenna will soon be on his way back to Ireland.

It has become clear over the past few weeks that the Essendon team management were focusing on competing for a place in the last eight without the Tyrone man. In the last number of weeks results have not been good and Conor has not been part of the Essendon game day panel. He had picked up a couple of niggly injuries and struggled to find his best form when he did return to action.

Essendon’s loss however will hopefully be Tyrone and Eglish’s gain and it might not be too long until we see him lining out for both club and county.
