Cookstown Claim Development League Title

Cookstown took on Dromore in the Under Sixteen Development League Final on Saturday morning at Ballinamullen. After a low scoring but highly competitive first half it was Dromore who were on top having reached the short whistle leading by a point 1-3 to 0-5.
A well taken goal by wing half forward Thomas Goodwin after twenty one minutes of the first half put Dromore in front and in spite of the best efforts of corner forward Matthew Mc Elhatton Dromore maintained their lead until late in the game.
In a tight fixture like this one scores were hard to come by and both defences were very much on top. However a second Dromore goal arrived with thirteen minutes remaining courtesy of big midfielder Emmett Mc Quaid which put them 2-3 to 0-5 ahead and seemingly set to take the title.
Both sides created good scoring chances and both came close to scoring more goals. However both sets of forwards were denied by excellent defensive work by their opponents and several good stops by the two goal keepers.
As the game entered the closing minutes Cookstown found the motivation to go and win it. With Eoghan Mc Elhatton, Eoin Lennon and Tadgh Mc Hugh driving them forward they enjoyed their most productive spell of the game landing two late goals from Sean Marty Rodgers to seal the win and take the title on a final score of 2-6 to 2-3.
