Cookstown Fr Rock’s collected their second trophy inside three days when they overcame Badoney in the Grade 2 U14 Championship Final in Greencastle on Tuesday evening. The Cookstown lads who lifted the All Ireland Division 6 Feile title on Sunday in Burren looked a little out of sorts in the opening thirty minutes and Badoney took full advantage.

The Gortin and Glenelly side fired themselves into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead inside ten minutes thanks to an Ultan McAleer goal and points from Odhran Brolly and Liam Og Mossey. Cookstown captain Callan Devlin converted the first of three penalties in the 10th minute ahead of an Odhran Brolly point and a second Cookstown major from Michael McElhatton in the 15th minute.

There were only two more scores in the opening half as Ronan Devlin from Cookstown and Badoney’s Garrett O’Neill hit a point apiece. Half Time Score – Badoney 1-6 Cookstown 2-1.

The Fr Rock’s side came out of the blocks quickly in the second half with a Michael McElhatton point and a further two points from Callan Devlin. Badoney eventually registered their first point of the second period in the 45th as Odhran Brolly found his range.

Cookstown reasserted themselves quickly though and hit 1-2 without reply. Another Ronan Devlin point sandwiched a goal and a point from Matthew Donaghy. Odhran Brolly’s 51st minute point was responded to with another 1-3 from Cookstown as Callan Devlin hit two superb points from play before converting the second of his team’s penalties four minutes from time. The excellent Michael McElhatton also recorded a point during that period.

The last two scores of the game were goals. Firstly a long ball from Cian McConnell into the Cookstown box found its way to the goal before Callan Devin thumped home his third penalty in the 62nd minute to conclude the scoring.

Final Score – Cookstown 5-9 Badoney 2-8
