Cookstown complete U16 Development Double
Sunday 17.09.2023

Cookstown completed the U16 Development double when they overcame Carrickmore in the championship decider at Pearse Park in Galbally on Saturday afternoon.
It was Carrickmore who edged the first half 1-3 to 0-5 despite having played against the wind. Cathain Fox got their goal Paidi McCallan and Lochlann Gillen among their points. Man of the match Lorcan McDermott hit a brilliant brace for a Cookstown side who would have been in front but for a number of fine saves from Carrickmore keeper Conall Bennett.
McCallan got his second goal early in the second half but that proved to be their last score of the game. Cookstown dominated in terms of possession but they struggled to find a way through a tight Carrickmore defence and when they did keeper Bennett made another couple of saves. McDermott, Brendan Mulgrew and Aidan McElhatton had Cookstown points to level matters. With four minutes to go Rory McAleer got a Cookstown goal before Rian Cody sealed it with an injury time major as it finished 2-9 to 2-3.
