Cookstown 1-13 Brocagh 2-6

A brilliant save from Martin Rea seconds from the half time whistle proved the turning point.  If Justin Campbell had converted it Brocagh would have gone into the break five points up.  Rea got down to his left hand side saved the shot and cleared the lines.  It was Brocagh’s second penalty inside eight minutes.  Campbell converted the first one with ease.

Cookstown opened the scoring in the 3rd minute through a James McGahan point from play, and added to the tally with a Danny McElhatton free three minutes later.  That lead became three in the 9th minute as John Gilmore spun and slammed one over the bar.  Brocagh got back into the game quickly though.  Mark Campbell’s shot was well saved by Martin Rea but the same player kept his composure and turned the rebound into the net.

Cookstown chipped in with the next two scores via Nathan Connolly and Gilmore once again. When the first water break came to an end Brocagh responded with a Ciaran Campbell point to reduce the Cookstown lead to one.  That lead became two in the 21st minute as Ryan Pickering found the range.  Then came Brocagh’s period of dominance.  First Diarmuid Robinson slotted a point from play before Brocagh’s opening penalty of the game converted by Just Campbell.  Mickey Hughes followed that with a point from play. Barry Potter finished the first half scoring with a point from play ahead of the excellent penalty save from Rea.  Half Time – Brocagh 2-3 Cookstown 0-7.

Cookstown needed a quick start to the second half and that’s exactly what happened.  McGahan was on the scoreboard inside 10 seconds followed by a Nathan Connolly goal.  By the 40th minute the Cookstown lead was three after a McGahan free. Brocagh reduced that to a single point by the second water break.  First Patrick Canavan then a Mickey Hughes free from 46 metres got the scores.

Two James McGahan frees in the 52nd and 56th minutes eased Cookstown nerves before Ruairi Mullan got in on the scoring act.  A Mickey Hughes free in injury time brought the Emmett’s on to 2-6 but the final score of the game fell to Cookstown sub Shea O’Driscoll.  Final Score – Cookstown 1-13 Brocagh 2-6
