Cookstown Fr Rock’s secured the O’Neills Under 13 Grade 3 title in Ardboe on Saturday afternoon after hugely entertaining game with a very spirited Derrylaughan side. Corner forward Terry Devlin was in wonderful form for the victors firing home an excellent 4-6 for the Cookstown side over the hour. The Fr Rock’s led by a goal at the break 2-3 to 1-3 with 2-2 of that coming from the brilliant Terry Devlin. Derrylaughan were slow to start but when they did get their first score after ten minutes through a Joe Donnelly free they soon worked their way back into the game. One of the highlights of the opening thirty minutes was a brilliant Levon O’Hagan goal in the 20th minute which ended up in the roof of the Cookstown net.

Shortly after the break Devlin opened the scoring with a point before Levon O’Hagan converted a penalty for the Kevin Barrys. Two minutes later they took the lead for the first time in the game when Joe Donnelly goaled. A brief Cookstown fightback was ended when Shay McErlain goaled again for Derrylaughan to put them 4-3 to 2-6 ahead by 43rd minute. Cookstown got a penalty in the 47th minute. That penalty was saved by Shane Conlon but the rebound was finished to the net by Terry Devlin. With eight minutes to go Terry Devlin got his fourth goal of the game to put Cookstown 4-7 to 4-4 ahead. Derrylaughan responded once more when Oisin Gordon took advantage of a goalkeeping error to punch the ball to the net and by the 58th minute they were two points ahead 5-6 to 4-7. Cookstown weren’t to be denied and after Terry Devlin finished a defence splitting run to find Tomad Hennon the big number eight found the bottom left hand corner of the game. Devlin had the final say in the 63nd minute with a free to confirm the title for the Fr Rock’s. Final Score – Cookstown 5-8 Derrylaughan 5-6
