Teamtalk has this evening learned that Dermot Carlin has become the latest member of the Tyrone senior setup to call time on his inter- county career.  Carlin was one of the last remaining links to Tyrone’s maiden All Ireland win in 2003.  Dermy informed manager Mickey Harte this afternoon and made him aware of his decision.

The Killyclogher St Mary’s man first came to prominence in 2001 when he was a member of the Tyrone side that lifted the All Ireland Minor title.  Two years he added a National League, Ulster and All Ireland Senior Championship medal.  A week after the All Ireland final in 2003 he was part of the Tyrone side that lost out to Dublin in the All Ireland Under 21 final.

In 2005 he missed out on the season however he was back in 2008 to add a second All Ireland Senior Football Championship medal.  During his time with the Red Hands he won a further three Ulster medals in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

In recent times he struggled with injury and only last December underwent an achilles operation.  Carlin has been unable to force his way back  into contention since his return and hence he has made the decision to retire.  That leaves Sean Cavanagh as the only player on the current squad with a link to the 2003 title.

Teamtalk wishes Dermy all the best in his county retirement.
