COUNTY| Tyrone Back In Ulster Final
Sunday 03.07.2016
Tyrone are back in an Ulster senior final for the first time since 2010 after they had ten points to spare over Cavan in their replay at St.Tiernachs Park in Clones on Sunday afternoon.
There were scores aplenty throughout the seventy odd minutes with Tyrone easing off in the closing stages safe in the knowledge that they had already booked a decider against Donegal on July 17th. Both sides recorded fine points early on with Cathal McShane hitting a superb brace and Niall Sludden and Mattie Donnelly also on target, David Givney and Martin Reilly with scores for Cavan. The sides shared the opening ten points but then a wonderful effort from captain Sean Cavanagh gave his side a lead that they were never to lose. A brilliant pass from McShane then released Peter Harte who blasted to the net and two minutes later the same player scored another goal after good approach play from Connor McAliskey and Tiernan McCann.
Leading 2-8 to 0-7 at the break it was effectively game over nine minutes into the second half when McAliskey capped a surging eighty yard run by firing low to the net. Gearoid McKiernan and Cian Mackey had Cavan points before Ronan O’Neill and McAliskey combined for the latter to square the ball for Rory Brennan to palm to the net only seconds after coming on. Harte kicked a couple of superb points with Cavanagh fisting one as well before Mackey got a Cavan goal. Mark Bradley then supplied a clinical finish for goal number five and while Jack Brady got a major with the last kick of the game it was well over by that stage as it finished 5-18 to 2-17.
