Crossmaglen’s Clarke Capable of Causing Trouble For Tyrone
Wednesday 20.07.2011

When Tyrone take to the field on Saturday night to face Armagh much of their defensive attention will be focussed on dealing with the threat posed by ace marksman Jamie Clarke. The Crossmaglen youngster has shown for both club and county that he has an eye for scoring important goals and his two strikes last time out against Wicklow were the difference between winning and losing.
Clarke first came to prominence as his club’s key forward in their march to another club title as he led defences a merry dance the length and breadth of the country. Indeed many Armagh followers felt that the county’s prospects in the National League suffered greatly due to the absence of Clarke in key games. He is the one marquee forward on the Orchard county side and although in some people’s view, quite inexperienced by county standards he is quite capable of terrorising any defence. Tyrone’s full back line looked very shaky against Longford and may force the manager into a reshuffle. The one thing the Red Hands lack is a real good man marker and that shortcoming could well be exposed against Armagh if Paddy O’Rourke’s side can exploit the spaces in Healy Park and get good quality ball into Clarke.
The Tyrone manager has many options to choose from now that most of his squad is back to full fitness. It is a nice position for Mickey Harte to be in but you can be sure that careful consideration will be given to the shape and formation of the Tyrone defence in order to deal with the threat posed by Clarke and his colleagues. Plans will be carefully laid and a defensive shape organised to deal with any possible dangers and while all these things are necessary it is the ability to think and act decisively on the line that could ultimately determine the outcome of this game. In that case we can expect a home win!
