The opening round of action in Division one demonstrated how competitive it is with three of the seven games finishing in stalemates. Harry Og Conlon proved to be the Edendork hero with a two pointer deep in injury time to earn his side a draw away to Loughmacrory. Cormac Mallaghan, Conor Mallon and Ben Cullen all contributed points for the visitors with Rian Nelis their goal scorer. Ruairi McCullagh top scored for the St.Theresas with Pauraic Meenagh, Ronan Fox and substitute Eoin McElholm all registering as well.

 

Moortown had a narrow win away to Gortin in a clash between two sides who were promoted last term. The St.Malachys laid the foundations for their win in the first half but had to withstand a fightback from Gortin after the break. Ryan Smith got the Moortown goal with Shea Lawn landing eight points and Liam Lawn and Ryan Kelly on target as well. Liam Og Mossey got the Gortin goal as well as a few points with Sean Og McAleer and Ciaran Brolly raising white flags as well.

 

Ardboe proved too strong for visiting Pomeroy at Coney Park. Caolan Mallaghan got both goals for the Rossas with Shay McGuigan kicking 0-7 and Oran Mulgrew, Jamie Concannon, Cormac Devlin and David Mulgrew notching ten points between them. Ryan Loughran and Ronan Duffin both hit two pointers for the Plunketts with Peter McGoldrick and Ryan McCallan on target as well.

 

Donaghmore came from six points down at halftime to record a comfortable win over Derrylaughan at Father Devlin Park. Conor Cush was in sparkling form for the winners with 1-9 to his name with Ronan Cassidy scoring 1-5 and man of the match in last week’s All Ireland U20 Final Noah Grimes helping himself to 1-3 with Cormac Drayne and John McKenna their other goal scorers. Tomas Carney was in fine form for the Kevin Barrys with his haul including a brace of goals with Fintan Cullen getting their other major and James Donnelly a few points.

 

Shea McDermott scored a late two pointer to earn County champions Errigal Ciaran a share off the spoils in a low scorer encounter with Trillick. It was his second two pointer after coming on as a substitute with Tommy Canavan and Eoin Kelly also weighing in with two pointers as well. Lee Brennan weighed in with 0-6 for the St.Macartans with James Garrity getting a brace and the evergreen Niall Donnelly bagging the only goal of the game.

 

There was also a stalemate in the local derby between Carrickmore and Galbally. Darragh Donaghy struck for an early goal for the Pearses with Eoghan O’Neill and Liam Rafferty getting a brace each but a fine Tiernan Loughran goal coupled with points from Danny Fullerton and Lorcan McGarrity saw the wind assisted hosts lead at the break. A two pointer from Cormac Donnelly and one from Daniel Kerr had the visitors four in front on the restart. Fullerton, Oisin McElroy and Rory Loughran edged Carrickmore in front only for Donaghy and Kerr to respond. Caolan Daly then scored Carrickmore’s last score before a Kerr free earned the Pearses a draw.

 

Killyclogher made home advantage count in one of the games of the day in the top flight as they saw off the challenge of Dromore. Conall McCan got their goal with Tiernan Cox, Patrick Corcoran and Mickey Rafferty among their points. Paudi Dillon top scored for the St.Dympnas with 0-5 with Ronan McNabb junior and Odhran Rafferty matching that tally and Oran Sludden getting their goal.
