Omagh CBS 7-03
St.Marys Magherafelt 2-09

Omagh CBS defeated St.Mary’s Magherafelt today in an exciting end to end game at Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Cookstown. With both of these sides extremely unlucky to miss out on the semi-finals of the competition this was always going to be a game of high skill level and equally high drama, the contest only really settled with ten minutes to go following a blitz of CBS goals.

The first half was a cagey affair with the Omagh men playing some excellent intricate passing and first time football but failing to convert this to scores and were lucky to be level going in at halftime after 3 points in a row by the Magherafelt lads as the half time break approached. Omagh’s first goal coming from a Dara McGarvey penalty, while it took a brilliant point blank save from Conor Fyfe in goals to keep St.Marys from going in ahead at the break.

The move of Tom Gallen to midfield, and the restructuring of the Omagh forward line led to a much more productive second half with Aodhan Corry, Cormac Darcy and super-sub Sean Donnelly bagging some fantastic goals as Omagh laid siege on the Magherafelt goal. At this time some fantastic play and turnovers from Tomas McElholm and Daithi McNamee meant Omagh kept up the pressure every time Magherafelt tried to attack. The Magherafelt men to their credit kept plugging away and it took another amazing double save from sweeper-keeper Fyfe to keep a late flurry of scores from Magherafelt turning into a comeback.
