Strabane Sigersons hosted their second annual Danny Rouse Memorial Minor Tournament on Friday night past at Páirc Mhic Sioghair with Omagh St Enda’s emerging winners over a determined Owen Roes side in a very dramatic final.
Strabane “A” and “B” sides competed alongside, Omagh, Owen Roes and Loughmacrory in what was a great evening of football.
Following all the group games, Omagh and Owen Roes won through to meet in the decider and what a cracking game it turned out to be with plenty of drama also.
Before the ball was even throw in, referee Brian McCallion dismissed one of the Owen Roes players for something that happened off the ball and a further Roes player saw a straight red card just minutes later but to their credit they fought gallantly and almost won the contest against a fine St Enda’s side who had been defeated in the group stages by the same opposition.
Warmest thanks are extended to the two referees on the night Brian McCallion (Castlederg) and Eamon McHugh (Aghyaran) who kindly officiated at the event.
A special word of appreciation is extended to the Rouse family who were in attendance and in particular to Danny’s widow Eileen who was present to make the presentations.
Finally without sponsors, events like this just couldn’t take place so a special go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir to Melmount Community Forum who kindly sponsored the beautiful trophies and to the Chairperson of the group Caroline Devine who kindly came along to help present the trophies.
