The news from Edendork makes pleasant hearing as Dean Maguirc become the inaugural winners of The Ward Cup having led at the break against a highly fancied Armagh Tech team 1-04 to 0-05. The Tyrone students probably had the advantage of the slight breeze and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession during a lively first half as a 23rd minute goal from Niall Owens put them four points up. However Armagh rallied and landed the last two points of the opening period to close the gap to two at the break.
The second half was score for score as both sides fought for supremacy. The Armagh lads seemed to have the momentum as they closed the gap to a single point with four minutes left on the clock. However showing tremendous composure and spirit the Dean hit back and Cathal Crogan’s fourth free of the day edged them two ahead. A two point lead is always a dangerous one but the Dean sealed the victory when Killyclogher lad Conall Mc Cann landed a superb inury time forty five to ensure the cup would travel to the Carrickmore seat of learning.
Final score from Edendork Dean Maguirc 1-09, Armagh Tech 0-09.
