Dean Maguirc Carrickmore 1-8 Abbey VS Donegal 1-7

A third Ulster Schools title of the season was added to the Dean Maguirc Trophy Cabinet on Thursday afternoon when they grabbed a match winning goal right at the end to defeat a gallant Abbey VS Donegal side at Lifford.

The Dean had trailed at one time in the first half by eight points and at no stage did they manage to get their noses in front until the most important time and that was four minutes into injury time when team Captain Sean Og Teague grabbed the all important goal. It was tough on the Donegal side who played their part in a memorable game but credit has to go to Dean Maguirc and their management team who refused to accept defeat as they played to the final whistle and got their reward.

Kevin Muldoon and Conor McCahill had a brace of points each for Abbey with Oisin Doherty also on target before a goal from defender Oisin Brogan left them 1-5 to 0-0 in front by the 24th minute. The Dean though kept plugging away and after Teague finally opened their account in the 28th minute Shea Munroe had the final say of the half to leave it 1-5 to 0-2 at the interval.

Teague and Ryan McCallan swapped points with Muldoon and Turlough Carr in the second half and with only six minutes of normal time left to play it was 1-7 to 0-5. Three Teague points in the closing stages gave the Tyrone lads a glimmer of hope and when Micheal Gallagher won a free on the left wing the team Captain lobbed the ball into the danger area where it took a deflection on its way to the net as Dean Maguirc won the Paddy O’Hara Cup in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Dean Maguirc, Carrickmore scorers: Sean Og Teague 1-6 (3F), Shea Munroe 0-1, Ryan McCallan 0-1

Abbey, Donegal: Kevin Muldoon 0-3, Oisin Brogan 1-0, Conor McCahill 0-2, Oisin Doherty 0-1, Turlough Carr 0-1
